Portuguese Housing Market Survey

Lisbon and the Algarve expected to see strong price growth in 2017

  • House price growth indicator rises again
  • Agents report strong monthly sales growth
  • First increase in new instructions for six months

“Prices are rising in all markets covered by the survey. Lisbon and Algarve regions more sharply, but Porto Metropolitan Area is also following a similar path. The main difficulty mentioned by agents is the lack of houses, both to sell or rent. Market conditions are clearly favourable for real estate dynamics and expectations are that prices and demand will keep growing in 2017.”

Simon Rubinsohn

Senior Economist at RICS

“GDP growth in Portugal was confirmed to have outpaced the euro area average for the second straight quarter in Q4. Furthermore, the second half of 2016 saw the strongest economic growth over a six month period since 2010. Nevertheless, the overall size of the economy remains 4% smaller than in 2008 and sustained improvement will be needed to further support the housing market going forward.”
