Portuguese Housing Market Survey

Demand and sales activity patchy during June

  • Enquiries flat in Lisbon and the Algarve
  • Renewed fall in instructions to sell
  • Sales expectations moderate

“It is not the first time that a decline in market activity can be seen over the Summer, particularly when it concerns new enquiries by potential buyers. This is the case this year and it also occurred in previous years, even in Algarve, despite being the high season for tourism. Nevertheless, some agents argue that there is a new climate among investors, which might be more cautions both due to actual price levels, and as a result of a series of legal changes that are expected to be implemented in the near future.”

“Although the June figures point to a quieter month for activity across some parts of the country, this follows a long sequence of solid growth. Given economic fundamentals remain supportive and consumer confidence remains buoyant, the outlook for the housing market still appears solid in the near term even if growth in activity may cool somewhat.”
